Seasonal, Contract - 2025 Season

Trek Support Co-Ordinator

$2,200 per week (5 day week)

Alice Springs, NT

Role Overview

 

LTTS is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Trek Support Coordinator to manage our trek support operations on the Larapinta Trail for the 2025 Season.  

 

Tasks

  • Manage all trek support operations and logistics  which includes Trail Transfers (2WD/4WD)Food Drops/ Caches, Gear Retrievals, Staff and Contractor coordination and management

  • Manage depot operations

  • Manage all compliance, certifications, qualifications and training requirements for operations, staff, depot and assets.

  • Assist or coordinate Search and Rescue taskings with NT Police

  • Deploy, lead and/or coordinate QRT SAR Team with UAVs

  • Assist with driving, food drops and other general trek support taskings.

Conditions

  • Alice Springs, NT based (LTTS)

  • Five day per week. 9 Hour Days

  • Mon-Friday / 830am-530pm*

  • 630am-430pm when driving

  • Seasonal, Contract

  • (Role can lead to full-time role)

  • Employment Period (1 April- 30 Sept)

  • Base Salary $2,200 per week

  • 13% superannuation

Skillsets, Experience and Capabilities

  • Manage high-tempo, multi-tasked, agile small-team operations

  • Manage all facets of small-scale base operations and field logistics with a focus on efficient, streamlined force-multiplying and agile operations

  • Skilled, trained and highly experienced in remote area field taskings using foot-based, vehicle and rotary means, day or night in challenging terrain.

  • Be proficient in software, computer and device use

  • Be proficient in radio and satellite communications, processes and protocols.

Minimum Requirements (No Exceptions)

  • Previous experience in an exact or very similar role for at least 5 years in emergency  or expedition management or an ADF frontline role

  • Current H Endorsed Licence (NT)

  • Full Manual NT Licence ( or equiv)

Highly Desirable ( Any one or more)

  • Australian Defence Force (ADF) experience is highly desirable, preferably ex-Army

  • Have a mid-level of competent hiking experience

  • Completed the Larapinta Trail End to End in the last three years

  • Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport)

Specialised Trek Leaders

$7,500 per 3-week trek block

Field Based

LTTS is recruiting for highly experienced and trained trek leaders to conduct remote area cross country treks in Central Australia. This is NOT a tour guiding role and will not suit individuals who are currently working as trail tour guides.  Our Trek Leaders will be leading intermediate to experienced hikers who have limited or no cross country (off-track) trekking experience. Role suits highly experience solo cross country professionals with extensive experience in remote area trekking in Central Australia and the Kimberley. 

Role/Tasks

  • Lead small groups of 5-6 hikers in remote, isolated and rugged terrain for up to 12 days. You will be leading the group with no assistant, but on some treks will be accompanied by an experienced Trek Paramedic.

  • Expect to carry a full pack weight of 22-27kg on every trek.

  • Conduct all pre-trek and post-trek briefings and compliance checks with trek group (customers)

  • Undertake and complete all trek planning and preparation, which includes route selection, resupply and heli-transfer/resupply coordination.

  • Prepare all equipment and gear items used for remote area caches, including GPS tracking, anti-tampering and field camera/video management.

  • Plan, prepare and carry out the placement of resupply caches using rotary support.

  • Inspect and prepare all satellite communications and tracking kit and remote area advanced medical gear (including IV kits, snakebite & suturing kits; and drug admin kit and protocols)

  • Complete trek level preparation and compliance for initiating and coordinating trek level emergency and medical evacuations by rotary, fixed-wing, vehicle and foot (stretcher), day or night.

  • Undertake and complete all pre-trek compliance systems for permit compliance, trek risk management, and trek protocol.

Conditions, Pay and Inclusions

  • Not a locally based position. You don't have to live in Alice Springs to apply for the role.

  • 3 week Trek Blocks, 4 times a year (12 weeks of work) - 

  • Contract Period (1 March- 30 September)

  • Salary: $7,500) per Trek Block (3 weeks of work - field and base) 

  • 1 Trek Block probation period

  • Uniform (Pants, Shirts and Boots supplied)

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) supplied (i.e. sunglasses, hat etc.)

  • Field Staff Equipment (FSE) supplied ( i.e. packs, tents, cooking gear etc.) - All top tier brands.

  • Excellent staff discounts for top outdoor brands ( Tents, Packs, Poles, Stoves etc.)

  • Certified and Non-Certified Training provided

  • Successful employment is subject to a week-long field-based assessment to test and evaluate skill and knowledge competencies in scenario-based conditions.

  • The evaluation will include a day and night based, full pack, 5 person, 5km mountainous cross country stretcher medivac scenario (also involving a final heli-evac extraction)

Minimum Requirements (No Exceptions)

  • Minimum of 5 years of extensive cross-country experience, preferably in desert, arid, and savannah regions of Central or Northern Australia in both summer and winter periods.

  • Current Advanced First Aid Qualification (HLTAID006) and Advanced Resuscitation (HLTAID007)

  • Current H Endorsed Licence (NT) /equiv

  • Full Manual Licence

  • Advanced 4WD experience/skills

Highly Desirable

  • Ex Army ( Infantry/SF, minimum 10 years FTS or GRES PTS 20 years)

Field Support Crew - Seasonal

$1,620 per week (4 day week)

Alice Springs, NT

Role Overview

 

LTTS is currently looking for new crew members to assist with field support taskings on the Larapinta Trail and across the Tjoritja/West Macs NP. 

 

​This is an entry-level position that is physically demanding, intensive, and high-tempo. You will be expected to undertake numerous taskings on any given workday and work within very tight schedules and timings.  

Part-time or casual roles are also available. Opportunities for a permanent full-time role at LTTS and our Australian Alps Trek Support (AATS) based in Mansfield, VIC.

 

Crew Tasks

  • Trail Transfers ( 2WD/4WD Driving on and off-road ( Hiace, Landcruiser) to most trailheads and remote areas (50% workload)

  • Food Drops to conventional storeroom points and cache points in remote areas (20% Workload)

  • Pre-Trek Support & Dept Support (30% workload)

  • Emergency Evacuations - When Required

Trek Paramedics

$9,500 per 3 week (21 day) trek block

Field Based

LTTS is looking for expressions of interest from experienced and qualified paramedics, preferably with search and rescue experience and/or significant remote area cross country trekking experience in arid, desert and savannah conditions (summer and winter periods). This role will be based in Central Australia but will rotate across northern Australia.

Summary of the Tasks and Role

  • Embed with a small group of 5-6 hikers on remote, isolated and rugged terrain treks for up to 12-15 days. Programs will involve very remote land based treks as well as coastal maritime transits in northern Australian coastal conditions.

  • Plan, prepare and coordinate all medical and evacuation plans & incidents for remote area treks including the use of rotary, fixed wing aircraft, boat, vehicle and foot ( day or night)

  • Be the onsite course paramedic for our advanced field skills and scenario courses (Extreme Terra, Terra Draco, Sirius Terra) in Central Australia, the Kimberley, Wet Tropics, Gulf of Carpentaria and Pilbara)

  • When on treks: The role will require the shared carriage (trek leader and paramedic) of an advanced remote area medical paramedic kit as well as trek gear. Pack loads are between 25-32kg)

  • When on Courses: The role will require setting up a bush med facility (RAP) which will include temp facilities for the paramedic and any patients.

  • Ex Military experience with SF background highly desirable. 

Part Time, Contract - 2024 Season

Admin & Base Support

$40-$45 per hour ( 4 day week)

Alice Springs (NT)

Role Overview

 

LTTS is currently on the lookout for an admin and base support person. This is a part-time position in Alice Springs.  In this largely unsupervised role, you will run our office/admin tasks, manage bookings, facilitate customer support and manage trek logistics orders and shop sales for both Larapinta Trail Trek Support and Australian Alps Trek Support. 

 

This is a mid-tier level role and would be suitable for someone with at least 3 years of admin/office management experience.  This role does at times require physical field work tasks.
