REDBANK GORGE TRANSFER

 

A Larapinta Trail vehicle transfer to/from Redbank Gorge (Section 12), the official finish point of the Larapinta Trail (walking East to West). It is also a common start point for those trekking West to East.   

 

Town pickups and drop offs: We pick you up or drop you off from/to your respective accommodation point but it must from our approved accommodation list  

 

Redbank Gorge pickups and drop offs: We pick you up or drop you off to/from the Redbank Gorge car park, which is approx 300m from the Larapinta Trail campsite.

 

Key Points for the Redbank Gorge Transfer

 

  • Morning Drop Off to Redbank Gorge: 

  • Depart Alice Springs: 7:00am -7:30am

  • Arrive to Redbank Gorge at approx 9:30am - 10am

 NOTE! The package does not include a transfer from/to Telegraph Station

3x FOOD DROPS

Three strategically placed food drops along the Larapinta Trail allow you to complete your E2E in more comfort by allowing you to distribute your food weight load and resupply every 4-6 days. It also allows you to enjoy any heavy meals at the food drop point. Our food drop services operate 7 days a week.

  • Food drops to Serpentine Gorge option is available

NOTE: if you are doing the new rerouted Section 7, and opt for a food drop to Serpentine Gorge, you will need to order/opt for that during your booking. It costs an extra $20

FOOD CONTAINERS AND HIRE

Your package includes standard  50lt tubs or containers (General Plastic Storage Containers) for your three food drops.  Read more about our containers here

STOREROOM KEY HIRE/BOND

A key is issued to you as part of the trek package. It is delivered with the containers during pre-trek. The key is required to open the Ormiston Gorge, Serpentine Gorge and Ellery Creek food storerooms.  The key hire is $80 of which $50 is refunded once you return the key to us.  More info about the storeroom key here

  • Delivered with containers during pre-trek

  • A $80 booking/hire fee is required for the key.

  • Refund is only provided once key has been returned to LTTS

  • The $80 hire fee is in addition to the Trek Package price. $50 is refundable​

  • You do not need a key for the Standley Chasm for food drop.

 

PRE-TREK CONTAINER DELIVERY/PICKUP

Your empty food containers will be delivered to your nominated accommodation. Containers are normally dropped off at the Reception storerooms a day before your trek starts or at an agreed date and time.  An SMS will be sent to your nominated mobile phone when delivery has been completed.

PRE-TREK CONTAINER COLLECTION

 

Your packed food containers will be collected from your nominated accommodation. Containers are normally collected the day you start your trek.  An SMS will be sent to your nominated mobile phone when the collection has been completed.

TRAIL RUBBISH DISPOSAL

Trail rubbish disposal is included. Rubbish bags will be provided in the containers.

This is an LTTS customer-only forum with content about the Larapinta Trail; how-to tips for hiking and the Larapinta Trail; live Q&A events; images and info updates directly from the trail and much more. Customers can post questions about their planning & preparation, itineraries etc and have LT experts provide answers and tips.

PLB RENTAL HIRE 

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is an essential piece of kit all hikers should carry, particularly solo hikers. If you are in a serious and life-threatening emergency or situation such as a snake bite, severe heat exhaustion etc, a PLB can save your life by instantly notifying emergency services. 

 

In Summary

 

STOVE FUEL ALLOCATION

A stove fuel allocation is provided in this package. The fuel will be delivered with your containers during pre-trek. 

 

  • Stove Fuel Package Inclusion As Follows :

  • 4 x 100g (or 2x230g) Jetboil or 2lt Shellite or 2lt Metho

  • All fuel is 100% new

  • You can buy more fuel if you need to.

 

GEAR RETRIEVAL

While you are on the trail you may decide that you are carrying too much equipment, clothing or kit. You have the option to leave any extra gear behind in your food container. We will then pick up any excess gear you leave behind in the container and have it delivered to you when you finish your trek.

 

In Summary

 

  • We will retrieve any gear or kit left behind in your food containers

  • Retrieved gear will be delivered to your accommodation at the end of your trek

  • There are no restrictions on what can be left behind, as long as it fits in the container and it's not illegal, or a biohazard

SPOT TRACKER RENTAL

A SPOT Tracker is a lightweight GPS device that monitors your position and progress for the duration of your trek. Your trek can be viewed online 24/7 by either the team at LTTS or by family or friends. You can send 3 different pre-set SMS messages to your contacts or send SOS messages for life threatening emergencies. Taking a SPOT Tracker is OPTIONAL. ​

  • Your must supply your own AAA Lithium Batteries​

 

PRE-TREK PLANNING SUPPORT

Pre-Trek Planning Support includes any help, advice and guidance with information, planning and tips to help you with your trek planning and preparation. You can email or call through anytime when you have any questions, queries etc about your Larapinta Trail trek, the trail, conditions, equipment etc. and we will help out wherever we can. This support is provided by experienced local Larapinta Trail experts with extensive knowledge about the trail and remote area trekking. This is an excellent option for hikers who want to be able to discuss their trek with local experts anytime.

 

TREK PLAN SUBMISSION, REVIEW & MONITORING

You can submit your trek plan to us for review and feedback. We will review your trek plan dates/timings, campsites, and other useful info and provide you with any practical or necessary feedback and tips. We will also use your plan to monitor your trek and have your trek info on hand in case of any emergencies. You don't have to submit your trek plan to us if you don't want to- this is optional.

 

In Summary

 

  • You can electronically submit your trek plan to the LTTS team

  • We can provide practical and useful feedback ( i.e. trek feasibility, campsite considerations, etc)

  • Your Trek Plan could assist in any emergencies or evacuations and rescues you may need

 

BAGGAGE STORAGE

The package offers you the option to leave your travel gear or excess baggage behind with us while you are on your trek. It will be kept in secure cool storage for the duration of your trek. Bags are placed in a protective canvas bag, zipped tied closed, tamper tagged and labelled with your details. We will drop it off to you at the end of your trek.

 

In Summary

 

  • One bag only. Bag size must be less than: 60cm in length/height. 30cm in width. 20cm in depth ( or thereabouts).

  • The average stay-behind baggage size for most people doing the trail is less than 50cm length/height or small to medium carry-on bags ( domestic flights)

  • If you have additional bags, let us know and we'll see if we can accommodate extra's​

KEY DEFINITIONS & FAQs
Definition: End to End (E2E): Hiking the full length of Larapinta Trail from the start at Telegraph Station on Section 1 and finishing at Redbank Gorge on Section 12 covering a total of 231km. The trail can be walked East to West or West to East.

Definition: Larapinta Trail Self-Guided: Hiking the Larapinta Trail independently and not with a tour group. Independ hikers normally organise transfers and food drops but walk the Larapinta Trail without any guides, vehicle or camp support.
